Springfield University Hospital Construction Update

Monday 23 November 2020

Excellent progress is being made by Sir Robert McAlpine at our Springfield University Hospital project in Wandsworth. The topping out ceremony for the new mental health buildings is being planned for early 2021.

The construction site is extremely busy, SRM are planning to pour the concrete for the first of the forensic roof sections towards the end of November and the non-forensic structure is complete enabling the fit out of the ground floor.

The Forensic building will contain the low to medium secure wards, approximately 50% of the site parking spaces, FM workshops, waste areas and the receptions for Forensic and the Wandsworth Recovery Centre.

The Non-Forensic building will contain several wards including Eating Disorders, General Adults, Deaf Adults, as well as Children and Adult Outpatient departments, training facilities, Recovery College, 33 parking spaces, FM facilities and the main hospital reception.

The new mental health facilities are only part of the redevelopment of the site. City & Country are busy with rejuvenation of listed buildings, Barratt London are due to start building new houses, infrastructure works are progressing and a new energy centre is being built in the basement of an 1881 chapel.

Further exciting updates to follow in 2021.

STEP is a 50/50 joint venture between Kajima Partnerships and Sir Robert McAlpine Capital Ventures and reached financial close at the end of last year to carry out the regeneration of the hospital site on behalf of South West London & St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust.
