Kajima formalise joint venture partnership

Monday 22 March 2021

Following the completion of the first phase of £80m regeneration project Rochdale Riverside, Kajima are pleased to announce their formal partnership with developers Genr8 to seek out further opportunities for town centre regeneration projects across the UK.

Rochdale Riverside, a 200,000 sq ft retail and leisure destination which has transformed the heart of the town centre, opened in spring 2020 and features amongst its occupiers; a 50,000 sq ft Marks & Spencer, a six screen cinema complex as well as a host of other well-known national retailers accommodated within 24 new retail and leisure units.

Building on the success of Rochdale Riverside, Kajima and Genr8 have now formally established Genr8 Kajima Regeneration Ltd.

Richard Ingham, Founding Partner of Genr8, said: “Kajima and Genr8 have proven track records and Rochdale is proof that together we can deliver a new breed of town centres. The partnership wants to engage with public sector partners who are looking to bring about real physical and social change to their towns and city centres. Our teams are closely aligned in terms of values and ethos, and we look forward to continuing a prosperous, long-lasting relationship.”

Having secured and completed the initial £80m funding deal with M&S Investments, works have already started on the next phase of the Rochdale project which will deliver 240 apartments and a 146-bed Hilton Hotel, in a further £50m investment deal.

Kirk Taylor, Development Director at Kajima Partnerships, commented: “Having completed the first phase of Rochdale Riverside, we are really excited to be evolving our strategic partnership with Genr8. We believe that together, Kajima and Genr8 can bring both real expertise and financial resource to the Government’s ‘levelling-up’ agenda, for the benefit of communities around the country.”
