Pathways to Property is an initiative ran by Reading Real Estate Foundation with the aim of ‘widening access to the real estate profession by raising awareness of and aspirations about the vast range of careers available within the sector’. The project has awarded nearly £230,000 in bursaries and engaged 700 students across eight annual summer schools since its launch. Of the latest intake for the 2020 summer school 83% of attendees are now considering a career in property.
Kajima supports the project through an annual donation to contribute to its activities, along with other industry-specific supporters including Savills Plc, Cushman & Wakefield and Knight Frank, as well as a number of charitable trusts and individuals. Through these industry-leading supporters Pathways to Property is able to bring together students and teachers with industry, to support the next generation of property professionals.
John Harcourt, Managing Director at Kajima Properties commented: “Pathways to Property is a fabulous initiative to give an insight into the industry to those who wouldn’t normally gain access to or be aware of the world of property, and we are really proud to support the project and help enable a new generation of property professionals enter the industry.”
As well as encouraging disadvantaged students into property professions, the project’s other initiatives aim to; benefit industry with pioneering academic research published by the School of Real Estate & Planning at the Henley Business School, provide work placement opportunities to students from underrepresented backgrounds and to offer financial support to students through bursaries.
Applications are now open for the 2021 Summer School, a three day, fully funded online event. During the three day course attendees will get a real insight into the property sector and learn about different career routes into the industry. The Summer School, which will run 19-21 July 2021, is open to Year 12 students from a state funded school/college in the UK.
