Innovative Amazon warehouse that created roles for 1,000 people in western Poland.
First operating in Poland in 2014, Amazon has since become the country’s largest US employer and third largest US investor. The online retail colossus’ success has prompted the need for more warehouse space equipped with the right technology to service one of the most sophisticated distribution networks in the world.
Working closely with partner and developer Panattoni, Kajima financed the development of the 200,000 sqm, four-storey warehouse in the Polish town of Świebodzin, and built a new roundabout along with necessary infrastructure.
The 1,000 new employees at the facility work alongside 3,000 Amazon Robotics drive units, engineered to slide under shelves and speed up the process of storing, packing and shipping products from the warehouse. It’s one of only three fully automated Amazon facilities in the country and was delivered in just 14 months.
BREEAM Excellent certification was awarded thanks to numerous pro-ecological measures built into the design of the warehouse. This included green electricity produced from 1.7MW of photovoltaic panels and electric car charging, as well as biophilic planting and landscaping around the site.
