As part of a joint venture between Kajima and Sir Robert McAlpine Capital Ventures, Springfield Village is currently underway with plans to open the first elements in 2022. Following the progress since work began in January 2020 after a year of early preparatory works, Sutton and Merton MPs, Elliott Colburn, and Stephen Hammond visited the development in South West London to tour its services and learn more about the development of the Springfield site.

Ian Garlington, Integrated Programme Director for the Trust commented “We are thrilled to welcome back our local leaders on site to share our fantastic progress. As we look towards modernising other areas of our estate in Richmond and Kingston, we are excited about the potential that Springfield Village has to transform how we deliver care to people across South West London who are served by this site.”

As part of the tour, the group visited the new residential units, two mental health facilities and the Trust’s National Deaf Service in Bluebell ward to find out more about how staff plan to provide specialist care and engage with our vision to make life better for people across our communities.

Richard Coe, Project Director added “We are delighted with the progress being made at Springfield. We have all invested so much time and energy in the project. It is very rewarding to visit the site, see construction progress on the mental health elements and walk into completed apartments in the Main Building. Excitingly the mental health buildings now have names, the forensic element will be called Shaftesbury and Non-Forensic, Trinity. As a trained engineer, it is great to now be able to compare computer generated images against the actual physical buildings. Some of the mental health spaces are amazing and really will facilitate recovery and rehabilitation.”

The regeneration of the Springfield University Hospital site achieved financial close in 2019 and construction is currently underway to carry out the redevelopment of the 82-acre hospital site on behalf of South West London & St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust. Within the JV, Kajima are supporting Sir Robert McAlpine in managing the redevelopment, construction of the 64-bed care home and actively progressing retail and social value workstreams.
