Belfast Metropolitan College

Belfast Metropolitan College, also known as Belfast Met, is the largest further and higher education institution in Northern Ireland. The campus opened in August 2011 in the city’s Titanic Quarter, amongst the surroundings of Belfast Harbour’s riverside district, the Titanic Museum and other attractions.

Kajima’s role was to effectively manage the site contractors and contracts in the construction of Belfast Met’s flagship campus and adjoining car park and now provides full, ongoing asset management services. Utilising Kajima’s innovative compliance and third-party tracking software, the dedicated Asset Manager ensures robust building and maintenance management, site safety and security, lifecycle management and value enhancement such as the recent improvements to the sites parking facilities.

The 317-space car park connects students, visitors and staff with direct street-level access to the college and adjacent Titanic Museum. To maximise the site’s sustainability credentials, Kajima oversaw the implementation of over 300 censored internal and external LED lighting. A new payment scheme, operated by YourParkingSpace has streamlined the access and egress to the facility and is optimising income generation.

The campus offers a 20,800 sq m education facility with impressive state-of-the-art classrooms to give students the best learning environments for their chosen courses. Students can get hands-on work experience in the five industry-standard training kitchens, an open-to-the-public restaurant, industrial sewing and craft workshops and commercially equipped beauty and hair salons. It also features library facilities, multimedia and conference halls, a Student’s Union, student funding and careers offices.
