State of the art facility providing essential services to the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service
The Jack Copland Centre enables the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) to retain its position as being world leaders in providing specialist delivery of high-quality blood, tissue and cells services. The development is named after the founder of the first Scottish blood transfusion service in 1930, Jack Copland.
Kajima aimed to design the building to promote the concept of SNBTS as a team, the centre provides office space, resilient ICT infrastructure and laboratory areas. Working alongside Reiach and Hall Architects, the building offers a bright, engaging and uplifting place of work, fulfilling the motive for greater collaboration between colleagues.
The centre won BCIA Project of the Year in 2019, and during construction supported 350 jobs and provided employment for over 3,500 people on the project from start to completion, 97% of the works let to local companies within a 50-mile radius, whilst also creating three new apprenticeships and 14 work placements for young people.
