Three retirement villages offering flexible and future-proofed homes.
Getting older shouldn’t be a barrier to leading an active and fulfilling life – today’s over 55s expect their homes to support enriching lifestyles. But as they progress through their later years and their care needs grow, they also want to feel confident they can remain there.
Creating a “home for life” – one designed with inherent flexibility so people can live safely and securely amidst green, energising environments without the need to relocate as they get older — was therefore fundamental to Kajima’s plans for a new £60 million care retirement living development in Stoke-on-Trent in which we acted as developer, investor and funder.
A collection of three retirement villages in close proximity, Kajima delivered 390 apartments, and worked closely with our partners Your Housing Group and Eric Wright and Seddon to provide quality essential amenities and services such as libraries, gym and fitness areas, hobby and craft rooms, cafés, restaurants, communal lounges and a village hall. There’s also a village shop, a newsagent, a hair and beauty salon and a launderette and, externally, a village green, a rose garden, private patios and seating areas, allotments and an orchard.
Proving that promoting healthier, happier later living need not come at extra cost to the planet, Kajima’s commitment to its sustainability values meant Stoke Extra Care was rated BREEAM excellent and an incredible 95% waste recycling was achieved on site.
